The Canoe Marathon
This is not a calm paddle in the park….this promotional video for the International Canoe Federation Canoe Marathon plays like a highlight reel of a Tour De France stage – with drama, excitement and carnage! The ICF Canoe Marathon is the format for long distance (up to 30 km) racing for K1, K2,K4,C1 and C2 canoe classes and courses usually involve portages. Races are held in waters all over the world and the season culminates with the World Championships. From the ICF website:
“The World Championships, held annually, are the pinnacle event for Canoe Marathon’s top athletes. In addition to crowning individual champions in each event, national teams are also honoured in the categories of men’s kayak, women’s kayak, men’s canoe and women’s canoe. Event winners in the men’s and women’s C1 and K1 events also earn points to contribute to their World Series rankings. The best performed athletes throughout the season in each category are presented with these awards at the end of the World Championships, the culmination of the season.”
