16th Annual Jay Race Set for June 17
From the organizers of the Jay Race – details for this year’s event in Monterey!
The 16th Annual Jay Moriarity Memorial Paddleboard Race is Northern California’s premiere paddleboard event. This one-day paddleboard competition is held on the picturesque Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary in honor of legendary surfer and paddler, Jay Moriarity.
We gather to remember Jay and paddle our hearts out in his honor! All proceeds benefit the Jay Moriarity Foundation to raise funds for Angel Warriors for Kids, Junior Lifeguard Programs as well as other ocean related beneficiaries including Ocean of Hope. Participants receive a goodie bag, t-shirt, race jersey (long course only), Peet’s coffee, Clif Bars and other swag.
The “Jay Race” features a challenging 12-mile Long Course, 2-mile Short Course, Waterman Challenge, Kids “Mini Jay Race” obstacle course, family-friendly atmosphere, pre-registration party at Surftech SC and raffle featuring surfboards, Paddleboards, Wetsuits and more!
Long Course

From the Mile Buoy you’ll head back to Capitola Beach to the finish.

Short Course takes competitors from the beach, out around a buoy set just outside the kelp beds, in to the Capitola Wharf, back out to the buoy and back to the beach. Lifeguards will be out on the course to ensure everyone’s safety.

Kids “Mini Jay Race” Description
The race course includes a short paddle around two buoys set just off of the beach followed by a wild beach run/obstacle course to make the races more fun.
Kids paddle around the course just a few yards from the beach. After the paddle course, competitors will run through the beach obstacle course while being squirted with “Super Soakers” then back out onto the water for another lap. Kids collect “Live Like Jay” wristbands every time they finish the obstacle course. Mini Jay Racers will receive one raffle ticket for every bracelet they collect! There will be plenty of Lifeguards on hand to keep everyone safe.
