Talia Decoite: In Search of Mana M2O Video

Mullet Events, Results & Recaps Leave a Comment

Say Hello to Talia.

If you don’t know Talia, you should get to know here. While we cover a lot of elite athletes on the Mullet, we try to show you the people behind the finally results, before and after the podium. We like to introduce you to them as people who paddle—just like you. Granted, Talia is beyond simply EXTRAORDINARILY GOOD at paddling. In fact, she won the Molokai2Oahu Paddleboard World Championships in 2012. That makes her sort of a total badass. But a happy, smiling badass.

After years of being friends on Facebook and following her on social media, we finally had the pleasure of meeting Talia at the start of the Gorge Paddle Challenge downwinder in Hood River, OR. She’s one of those people who we felt we knew because of everything we’d seen on social media, our interactions with her online, and mutual happy friends. You can see photos of people smiling and having fun online, but until you meet them in person and see the actual smile and the happiness in their voice, it’s hard to know what they are really like. Not just Facebook like. I’m happy to say Talia is as genuinely personable and fun in person. She’s an amazing person, amazing athlete and maybe even more positive—and possibly a little taller. (Until now, she’s only been 1024 × 768.)

Check out the video. And if you have the chance to meet Talia, walk up, smile and say hello.

We’re so excited to get a few paddle things from Talia in the future.

PrAna Ambassador Talia Decoite achieved her childhood dream at 19 with a world record win in the Molokai2Oahu Paddleboard World Championships in 2012. At the top of her game, a mysterious illness threatened her life’s passion and forced her re-evaluate the very thing that brought her joy. ‘In Search of Mana’ is her story of change, persevere and embracing life.

*In Hawaiian culture, “Mana” is a form of healing energy*
