Please welcome Deb Klapperich to Distressed Mullet with some pictures and a recap from the recent
Stand up Paddle People Battle was held in Zion Il at the Illinois state Park on Saturday. It was part of the Midwest Standup Paddleboard series.
The weather wasn’t great–very foggy, but the water on Lake Michigan was warmish. It wasn’t a huge race but still fun. I love the SUP community and I love meeting people with same passion for SUP.
I took 1st for woman in the Rec race. (Not many women paddled)
The elite race was cut short because the fog got pretty bad.
SUP racing isn’t big in the Milwaukee area, which is a shame because I am obsessed. I have one guy I train with otherwise I’m alone as far as training goes. We are both training for Chatttajack in October. I’ve been paddling for years on kayaks but when I hurt my back, sitting became difficult. So when SUP came along, I was hooked. I love the water and this is the closest I’ll get to being a surfer girl ( at age 46);)
Our next Midwest race in in Lake Geneva the weekend after next.
That race should draw a bigger crowd. The race director is a great guy. It’s the Midwest SUP Masters Race, Luau and swap at Riviera Beach sponsored by ClearWater Outdoor. Info at www.clearwateroutdoor.com
It should be fun:)
