The Chattajack 31 Mile SUP/Kayak Race is scheduled for Saturday, October 26, 2013. The race will begin at Coolidge Park in Chattanooga TN and ends 31 miles downstream at Hales Bar Marina on Nickajack Lake. Chattajack is WPA sanctioned. The Chattajack after party/award ceremony will be held 7 PM, Saturday, at Coolidge Park. Lots of fun River Rocks festival stuff going on Saturday evening at Coolidge Park, sculpture burning, hot air balloons, musicians, vendors, etc.
Race will begin 8 AM at Coolidge Park with a mass start. The course will pass Lookout Mountain and Moccasin Bend before traveling through, the Tennessee River Gorge. After traveling the entire gorge the race will end at Hale’s Bar Marina in Nickajack Lake. Total Distance: 31.5 Miles. Racers are required to have a PFD, feel free to bring low profile CO2 inflatable or traditional style PFD. Leashes are optional. Drafting is allowed within class.
A few people have asked if this section of river contains rapids or rocks. There are not rapids and the river is deep enough for barges, yachts, etc to travel up and down.
Shuttle will be provided for racers and gear from Hale's Bar Marina back to Coolidge Park. If you have clothes you want transported to the finish line (Hale’s Bar Marina), bring them to Coolidge Park by 7:15AM Saturday morning.
The last event shuttles will be leaving Hales Bar Marina at 5 PM.
There is no registration race day. Races begin at 8 AM with meeting at 7:30 AM. Please be at Coolidge Park with board and personal gear by 7 AM.
Support for racers:
Motorboats will provide water and food supplies to racers during their 31-mile push. We've also reserved the Pot House so if racers need a break they can stop to rest, rehydrate, and refuel for the final half.
Chattajack Race Divisions:
SUP: 12'6", 14', Unlimited
Tandem Divisions will be added as needed during registration.
The Chattajack racecourse is perfect for family and friends that want to view the action or cheer on racers. The gorge is accessible by vehicle so we encourage spectators to cheer on racers from stopping points along the way! Spectators can also contact Eric at flythis.biz to reserve an ultralight flight through gorge and view Chattajack racers from above!
In case you aren’t able to make it to the race but want to follow the action, Supconnect will be broadcasting live video feeds, including aerials from ultralight, prerace interviews, and paddlers digging toward the finish.
Fun Things Around Chattanooga After the Race:
If you are a visitor to Chattanooga and looking for something fun to do on Sunday (day after race) feel free to let us know how much time you have and if you are looking for something wild or mild and we’ll make a recommendation for you before you make your way home.
