Product Review: Dry Case with Waterproof Vacuum Seal
Five years ago, I paddled over to Masonboro Island with lunch and Razor Cell phone in a ziplock freezer bag. I remember making a joke about the green seal. When I got to Masonboro, I went to call a buddy at work and brag that I had the day off. My phone sat at the bottom of a bag full of water. It looked like a dead goldfish and when I pulled it out, the rotten-egg sulphur from the battery.
Ever since that wonderful and expensive experience, I’ve used a lot of different dry bags and map bags. All of them are great at keeping out the water. None are good when you open them.
Why open them? Because you bring a phone in case you have to use it. When you have to use it, you take it out of the bag and it’s exposed to the water. Hence iPhone #1 R.I.P.
I’ve had a number of expensive mistakes and simply leave everything in the car. Until now. Enter the DryCase with it’s vacuum seal. You put the phone in the case and squeeze the yellow pump to expel the air.
The case comes with an armband, lariat, headphone jack, and air pump (lemon-looking thing).
The case has a headphone jack. You can use this with waterproof headphones or don’t connect the cable to talk normally. Granted, you’re talking and hearing through plastic, so it isn’t perfect, but it works. And on an iPhone, the plastic doesn’t interfere with its touch-screen operations.

locking clasps rotate and snap into place for a secure lock.

I used all sorts of dry bags to keep water out. But they don't help when you need to make a call and you're on the water.

headphone jack lets you use waterfproof headphones with your device

Air pump, nozzle and safety cap. Pump the air out, pop the cap on and you're done.
There is an armband and a lariat. I’m not a fan of the armband, but the lariat works well. It’s a little bulky, but that’s the nature of an iphone on your arm.
The best thing about this is that you can use your device without taking it out of the bag. And if you’re using everytrail or map my run apps, it’s now possible to use them without worrying about taking them in and out of a bag, or making changes.
I give DryCase 4 out of 5 mullets.
Disclaimer: The People at Dry Case gave me a case to try to see if I like it. They did not pay me to write this review and are not paying me to advertise.
