Restube is working its way through the U.S. Coast Guard certification process. If approved, Restube will be the smallest approved life jacket on the market, at about 270 grams and the size of a dollar bill.
RESTUBE IS NOT A CURRENTLY APPROVED PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICE (PFD) BY THE USCG
Here’s more about it from their Kickstarter page:
“We’ve sold over 60.000 Restube tubes today and saved over 25 lives, and now you can be part of the two newest inventions: a smaller enhanced swim tube and a compact inflatable life jacket.
The Kickstarter campaign goes towards Coast Guard-certification and production ramp up. By participating, you can receive the newest Ultralite Swim Tube with sleeker, lighter-weight material and LED illumination; or the Ultralite Life Jacket, the smallest and most mobile certified life jacket on the market. The jacket will also match European standards for buoyancy aids for activities close to the shore.
Three time champion Molokai to Oahu paddleboarder Sonni Hönscheid loves our product for the design and safety features. Water sports enthusiasts tell us that they love the compactness and are craving for a Coast Guard certification because it meets both their practical needs for mobility and worn a Type 3 life preserver, as well as European ISO 12402-5.
The Ultralite Life Jacket is 0,6 lbs (~270 grams) lightweight, uses original Restube CO2-Cartidges, providing the highest quality rearming kit for the lowest price in the industry. The D-ring attachment at the belt is ideal to attach small accessories such as an SUP-leash.”
