What is your biggest challenge as a retailer?

That the market is flooded with cheaply made low-quality SUP equipment.

On a scale of 1-10, how healthy is the sport?

10

How likely will the sport continue to grow in this next year?

10

Where will we see the growth if any?

In destination paddle guiding and training companies that cater to the emerging population of experienced paddlers.

Do you have any advice for manufacturers?

Keep the board line as compact as possible, fewer better shapes.

What kind of paddling settings and conditions are near your shop? Remember – we need all the details!! Make us want to paddle there!

The island of Martha’s Vineyard is located just off the southern coast of Massachusetts. We have access to every type of paddling from peeling point breaks to glassy inlets and estuaries. We use SUP hand trailers to hike into the most secluded spots on our ‘Hike and Paddle Adventures’.

What is it about paddling that gets you up in the morning? That gets you excited? We REALLY want to know!

There are so many things that keep me coming back for more, but ultimately it’s how natural and healthy it makes me feel, and the gentle way one has to apply force to the board and paddle to move through the water efficiently, contrary in so many ways to all of the other bone-rattling adrenaline sports I’ve done in my life.

Describe your local paddle community. When do you get together and what are they like?

Until this year I was very much afflicted with the urge to compete in races, and the community that participates in the New England SUP races have to be some of the coolest people around, down to earth, genuine good souls, but once the gun goes off, fiercely competitive animals! This season I’m committed to building a new community of paddlers, on an island that has the potential to become a world class paddling destination. There are plenty of locals now with boards on their roofs, but everyone paddles alone, so with a little perseverance it shouldn’t be too hard to bring people together for some good times on the water while kindling some new friendships at the same time.
