On a scale of 1-10, how likely will the sport continue to grow in this next year?
Where will we see the growth if any?
I believe that the inflatable SUP markets will see the biggest growth percentage as board companies expand further into this area.
Do you have any advice for manufacturers?
Lower the available options on each type of board. The brands we carry offer simple to understand options. Some of the other brands offer the same board in six different options which can be confusing and misleading to the general consumer.
What kind of paddling settings and conditions are near your shop?
Lake Ontario is our water playground. People don’t realize that it is the 14th largest lake in the world with over 1000km of shoreline. We can see flat water conditions one morning and then six-foot waves that afternoon. It can challenge even the most experience paddlers.
What is it about paddling that gets you up in the morning? That gets you excited?
I’ve been paddling as an athlete or coach for over 35 years. SUP has allowed me (and others) to continue our love of paddling/water. The best part is that we get to paddle together with people who have the same interests!
Describe your local paddle community. When do you get together and what are they like?
We are extremely fortunate to be based in one of the most successful spots in Canada for a multitude of paddle sports. Our local group is very, very supportive of helping people get on the water and most have a very impressive background from other paddle sports. That paddling ohana feeling is one of the greatest things about SUP and our community!!

Get off the keyboard and onto the paddle board!

Properly working PFD and leash! Check your equipment before you go.
