I was looking for something to hold me over between meals, something to stick in a pocket when I went paddling. Somethign small, but satisfying and something healthy. Setton Farms Pistachio Chewy Bites nailed it.

They are over 50% whole pistachios. Pistachios have less calories than other nuts, but with more potassium and vitamin K per serving. On average, an ounce of dry-roasted pistachios contains 160 calories, 6 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber and 15 grams of fat, including only 2 grams of saturated fat. Add fufilling 25% of the daily value for vitamin B-6, 15% of the daily value for thiamine and phosphorus and 10% of the daily value for magnesium and you have something worth packing.

I'd say they're addicting, but not like a potato chip. It's not like you crack one open and you want to eat 50 of them. The individual packs are surprisingly satisfying. I also like the crunch of the whole pistachios. I never really ate them before this snack. I was always in the walnut, almond, Brazil nut camp. But now I'm sold on pistachios.

If you take them on a paddle, just make sure you keep the wrapper and don't let it blow into the water. Golden rule: Leave the water better than you found it. For every piece of trash you produce, pick up 2 more on your way back to the dock or car.

There is added sugar to the cranberries as part of the drying process. I suppose it's like salting meat when you dry it. I'm not sure. That's above my pay grade. However, the boost isn't a bad thing when you're out expending 300-1000 calories on a long paddle.

They are gluten free, dairy free, GMO free, and 100% vegan.

Here is the nutritional information:

I have thrown them into my VItamix in shakes and broken them up into yogurt with great results.

The small packs are good size and are sticky, so don't drop them. The 5-second rule doesn't apply to sticky things or liquids. Although, they're good enough that you'll look twice at one that you've dropped and ponder how hard it'd be to pluck each grain of sand out to make it edible.

I'm goign to pack some for my raod trips to Ottawa, Utah and Oregon this summer.
