High Tide Surf Shop
The High Tide Surf Shop is located on Highway 80 and maintains a great, online surf report. The store itself offers a decent selection of surfboards, wetsuits and surf apparel. Celebrated shaper Matt Kechele is the man behind the shop’s gorgeous looking, custom surfboards. You’ll also find a selection of stand up paddleboards, skimboards, kiteboards and more. The shop also offers lessons and standup paddleboard tours. Some of the brands the store carries include Billabong, Quiksilver, Firewire, Roxy and O’Neill. It usually opens at noon on Sundays and at 10 a.m. the rest of the week.
North Island Surf and Kayak
Looking for surfing lessons and rentals? The North Island Surf and Kayak on Old Highway 80 is one of your best bets. Surf lesson prices tend to start at $50 per person for groups and are inclusive of some equipment rental costs. Private and semi-private surfing lessons are also available. The company offers $40 a day paddleboard rentals as well as kayak rentals. If you don’t want to pick up the gear yourself, delivery is an option but will generally cost you extra. Hours of operation vary and advance reservations are needed during select times of the year.
East Coast Paddleboarding
Paddleboard rentals and lessons are also available through East Coast Paddleboarding. Rental prices tend to range from $15 for an hour to $60 for a full day. Prices for surfing lessons generally start at $75 and stand up paddleboarding lessons will run you a minimum of $50 per hour. You can also purchase new and used boards and accessories as well. You’ll find brands like Liquid Shredder and BIC available. One of the unique things that this company offers is stand up paddleboarding yogalates. Basically, instead of doing yoga and pilates moves on the beach you are doing them on your paddleboard. Hours of operation vary, so it is best to call ahead.
